Once you become a public figure, your life is no longer ... your life. It belongs to somebody else. To everybody else! There is an energy that comes into play that has nothing to do with who you are.

My adventures in Germany had had an element of rebellion to them, but even that rebellion did not prepare me for what followed in the wake of “Love to Love You Baby.” I had no idea how to handle the success, or where to turn for help. Part of the problem was that Neil had created a completely new persona for me, which had absolutely nothing to do with who I really was. During my acting career in Munich, for instance, I had always been the comedic one in our group, a clown, Lucille Ball–like. In fact, they used to refer to me as “Little Lucy.”
